Ski Camp 2018

This will be a similar camp as held two years ago being a fantastic experience and greatly enjoyed by all adults and children that went. The big difference this year is that we will be going to a new camp, this being Tongariro Holiday Park. Due to the fact that this is a smaller park we need to divide our group in half.

The classes are split as below.

Rooms 15 and 17 Tuesday 21 to Friday 24 August
Rooms 14 and 16 Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 August

The approximate cost will be between $500- $550 per pupil.

We will be staying at the Tongariro Holiday Park which has a long history of providing excellent service to schools for outdoor education experiences.

We hope to have two full days on the ski fields.  Ski hire, lift passes and a professional lesson will be included in the cost of the camp.  An alternative programme will also be arranged in case the weather makes skiing impossible.

Camps such as these are the highlight of the year for most children and something that they remember for years to come. However, we understand that the high cost can cause some financial strain and so have taken some steps to make payment a little easier. The first of these is that it is possible to set up an automatic payment with the school to spread payments over the next 6 months.

Secondly, we have decided to start fundraising 6 months out with students participating in a number of fundraising projects, including chocolate selling.  We will allow children to fundraise money directly to their own account.  This means that whatever profits they raise, reduces their own camp costs by an equivalent amount.  This was an extremely successful format in 2016 with some children fundraising the entire cost of their camp.

Thirdly, we would encourage children to take responsibility for some of the costs themselves, possibly by completing small jobs over the next 6 months, to be credited towards their camp.  Some parents may choose to set up a job sheet and send the money to school at periodic intervals, or match their child's sum dollar for dollar.  The main idea is to spread the cost of camp as much as possible.

Lastly, we do not wish money to be a barrier for any child to attend the camp, so some sponsorship may be available for children who, for financial reasons, would otherwise be unable to go.

So put the relevant dates in your diaries and start practising your slalom techniques!  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
