Below are the files in Student Achievement Information.
- 2010 February School-wide Achievement Data (120 KB)
This report contains graphs and aggregated data relating to Student Performance verses National Norms in PAT Listening, Reading Comprehension Reading Vocabulary, Maths and STAR
- Teacher Judgements for Reading and Maths from the 2009 End of Year Reports V Norm Scores from 2009 PATs and STAR (472.6 KB)
The following graphs compare the percentage of teacher judgements allocated across the whole school in the process of writing our 2009 end of year reports against percentages of stanine scores from nationally normed assessment tools.
- 2009 Six Year Net Analysis (302 KB)
The Six Year Net test is divided into six areas of literacy. It is a powerful test that leaves teachers with a huge amount of data on each child. By the end of the test teachers will know exactly what their students can and can’t do in relation to reading and writing. The results can then inform teaching to enhance the strengths of the child and address needs of the child. The test is taken on or immediately after the students sixth birthday.
- 2009 Reading Ages (43.5 KB)
The achievement data collated in the following graphs has been collected by way of one on one Running Records. The Running Record is a relatively ‘soft’ assessment tool that relies on the teacher’s observations and interpretation of a student’s reading ability in both decoding and comprehension. It is highly effective and widely used through out the Junior School. It is primarily a diagnostic tool for the teaching of reading and its use tends to tail off as students become proficient readers (reading age of 12 years plus).
- 2009 STAR Retest (542.4 KB)
This report analyses student achievement using the same assessment tool (STAR) in March and then again in October and compares these performances to National Norms.
- 2009 Best Fit Numeracy Levels (434.8 KB)
This is a relatively ‘soft’ assessment tool that relies on the teacher’s observations of a student’s ability using ‘I can sheets’. Teachers can also assess students in the one on one NUMPA test. Due to the time consuming (10 to 15 minutes per student) nature of ‘one on one’ assessments this tool is used sparingly. Nevertheless the Numeracy Best Fit Level gives a good indication of a student’s level of Number Knowledge and the sophistication of their Number Strategies.
The norms and expectations used in these graphs have been supplied by the National Numeracy Facilitation Team.
Due to the way that the Norms have been written we are only able to make comparisons by Year Group. At this stage we are unable to get school, gender or ethnicity comparisons.
- 2009 March October asTTle Writing Comparisons (335.2 KB)
Our writing focus for 2009 was Character Description and while the whole school taught this genre, for the purposes of this report data was only gathered from the students from years 4-8 due restrictions of the asTTle tool. Baseline data was gathered and analysed in March and summative data gathered and analysed in October. As in previous years the testing followed a standardized procedure (as much as possible) and the marking process included analysis, moderation, at a staff and syndicate level, and benchmarking. The attached reports comprise the AsTTLe Console Report, which compares our school with ‘schools like ours’, and Year Group Bar Graphs generated from the asTTLe results.
- 2009 Me and My School Item Report by Gender and Year (219.4 KB)
This file gives an Item Report of each question asked. It shows the levels of student engagement in learning as measured by the NZCER Me and My School Survey for Year 7 and 8 Students in September 2009. This is a norm referenced assessment tool. The results for Waikanae School are quite exceptional with a difference between the reference group and our performance being quite noticeable.
- 2009 Me and My School Information Sheet (196.9 KB)
Please find below several reports produced by NZCER on the Assessment Tool Me and My School. The reports are outstanding and indicate an exceptionally high level of client satisfaction. Waikanae School outperforms the reference group on all questions and for all cohorts. I suggest parents examine these reports closely as they speak volumes about the way in which Waikanae School operates and the type of education that your children are receiving. In my view these reports really are something worth celebrating!
