      • 1:00 AM - Parent Teacher Interviews
        Location: Your Child's Classroom
        An evening of student/parent/teacher interviews will once again be held at the start of Term 1 2012. The allocated time for each interview will be 10 minutes. This primary purpose of this interview is for the parent to inform the teacher of any issues or concerns that they might have about their child and his/her coming year of study. It is not about teachers informing parents on student progress. The interviews have been scheduled to enable the sharing of information thereby improving our ability to meet your child’s needs. Once again we will be using a web-based interview booking system. The website will be the primary method of booking your child’s interview and we ask that you do this yourself rather than make phone or personal bookings through the office. To access the interview booking website please go to the last tab on the school website www.waikanae.school.nz and follow the instructions. This system is easier, saves time and will enable you to book your interviews from wherever/whenever you have web access. Bookings are now being taken. Good luck

        Location: Waikanae Pools
        Competitive meeting for length swimmers 10am to 12.30pm Junior races: 8 - 10 years Juniors swim 1 length of the pool (30 metres) Senior races: 11- 12+ years Seniors swim 2 lengths of the pool freestyle. All other strokes will be 1 length. This is a competitive meeting – there will be no width races. Only those children choosing to compete in the length races will be attending. Children who enter length races will be leaving school at 9.45am by bus. Entries will be called for at the beginning of next week.

      • 9:00 AM - TEACHER ONLY DAY
        In compliance with the Education Act the school opened two days early this year which has enabled the school to effectively ‘call back’ our teachers during their holiday time. Although it might not seem like it teachers are actually working during their holidays when we close for a Teacher Only Day. If a third, fourth or fifth TOD is required the extra days will be made up at the end of the year. The actual number of days the school is open for instruction will be not be shortened. The school will make the days as convenient as possible for parents by endeavouring to: 1. Give parents plenty of notice 2. Link our TODs with other schools eg Paraparaumu College 3. Link our Days to weekend or existing holidays The school will be officially closed on Teacher Only Days. There will be no supervision provided for any students. There will be regular notices in the newsletters reminding you of the impending closures.

      • 7:30 PM - Parent Information Night. PATs and National Norms
        Location: Staffroom
        An information evening will be held on Tuesday 1 May, 7.30pm in the Staffroom for those parents who would like to know more about the assessments sent home to parents as part of our Term 1 Report to National Norms and what they mean for both your child and the school as a whole. As it is a public meeting we will not be discussing any individual student results but will rather look at trends and practices across the school and country. If you have specific concerns re your child’s performance we urge you to attend the Information Meeting prior to talking with your child’s teacher.
